For Commercial Builders


A Federal Tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available to owners or tenants (or designers, in the case of government-owned buildings) of new or existing commercial buildings that are constructed or reconstructed to save at least 50% of the heating, cooling, ventilation, water heating, and interior lighting energy cost of a building that meets ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001.

Partial deductions of $.60 per square foot can be taken for improvements to one of three building systems—the building envelope, lighting, or heating and cooling system—that reduces total heating, cooling, ventilation, water heating and interior lighting energy use by 16 2/3% (16 2/3% is the 50% goal for the three systems spread equally over the three systems).

South Carolina Corporate Solar Heating & Cooling Tax Credit for the purchase and installation of solar heating and cooling systems. A taxpayer may claim a credit of 25% of the costs of installing a solar energy heating or cooling system, or both, in a building owned by the taxpayer. The maximum credit is $3,500 or 50% of the taxpayer's tax liability for that taxable year, whichever is less.

South Carolina Landfill Methane Tax Credit: 25% corporate tax credit for costs incurred by a taxpayer for use of methane gas taken from a landfill to provide power for a manufacturing facility.

A Federal taxcredit of $2000 is available to home builders who build homes (including both site-built and manufactured homes) projected to save at least 50% of the heating and cooling energy of a comparable home that meets the standards of the 2003 International Energy Conservation Code, including supplements.

Tax and Loan Incentives – Personal/Residential


Solar heating and Fuel Cell – 30% - maximum incentive is $2,000 for photovoltaics and solar water heating; $500per 0.5 kW for fuel cells (an individual can take both a 30% credit up to the $2,000 cap for a photovoltaics system and 30% credit up to a separate $2,000 cap for a solar water heating system. A 30% tax credit up to $500 per 0.5 kW is also available for fuel cells.

Solar Heating & Cooling personal – 25% of eligible costs – maximum $3,500 or 50% of taxpayer’s tax liability for that taxable year, whichever is less. A taxpayer may claim a credit of 25% of the costs of installing a solar energy heating or cooling system, or both in a building owned by the taxpayer.

 

Energy Star Products


Windows and Doors that meet IECC – 10% of cost, up to $200 for all windows, skylights and storm windows. Storm window meets IECC in combination with the exterior window over which it is installed, for the applicable climate zone.

Storm doors in combination with a wood door assigned a default U-factor by the IECC and do not exceed the default U-factor requirement assigned to such combination by the IECC-10% of cost up to $500.

Storm windows that meet IECC in combination with the exterior window over which it is installed, for the application climate zone – 10% of cost, up to $200 for all windows, skylights and storm windows. List glasses of exterior windows (single pane, clear glass, double pane, low-E coating, etc.) that a product may be combined with to be eligible in specific climate zones

Metal Roofs – Energy Star-qualified and must expect to last 5 years or have a 2-year warranty – 10% of cost up to $500.

Insulation that meets 2000 IECC & amendments (vapor retarders are covered, siding doesn’t and must expect to last 5 years or have a 2-year warranty - 10% of cost up to $500.

HVAC Central A/C that meets EER >d12.5/SHEER>15 split systems ER.12/SHEER. 14 package systems – $300.

Air Source Heat Pumps – HSPF>9 SHEER>13 SEER>15 - $300.

Geo Thermal Heat Pump – same criteria as Energy Star: EER>14.1 CP> 3.3 Closed Loop EER>16.2 COP 3.6 Open Loop EER> 15 COP > 3.5 direct Expansion - $300.

Gas, Oil, Propane Furnace or Hot Water Boiler – AFUE>95 for both furnaces and boilers – $150.

Advanced Main Air Circulating Fan – no more than 2% of furnace total energy use – $50.

Gas, Oil, Propane Water Heater – Energy Factor > 0.08 - $300.

Electric Heat Pump Water Heater – Energy Factor > 2.0 - $300.

These tax credits apply to improvements made to your primary residence from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2007. For tax purposes, save your receipt and the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement.


Utility Loan Programs


Aiken Electric Cooperative – Loans are available between $1,000 and $15,000 for efficiency water heaters, heat pumps, air conditioners, building insulation. Technologies: windows, doors. Eligible Renewable/Other: Geothermal Heat Pumps.
Berkeley Electric Cooperative – utility rebate program for Earth connect geothermal heat pumps - $250 per ton maximum $1,250. Efficiency water heaters, building insulation, doors, other unspecified home improvements. Technologies: improvements. Eligible Renewable/Other: geothermal heat pumps. – Loans up to $10,000

Also, incentives from most utility companies for residential properties are available.
